Learning Support
Learning support at Mowden Hall School is offered through the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Department.
The department supports staff and pupils across our school to ensure that all pupils receive the support that they need for effective learning so that they reach their full academic potential.
We strive to ensure that difficulties of any kind do not hold back a child’s eventual success, by seeking to remove barriers to learning. We are passionate about boosting self-esteem, confidence, and resilience.
We aim to work with parents and professionals to ensure that the provision we put into place today, will enable our pupils to achieve fulfilling outcomes well into their future.
Graduated Approach
We follow the Graduated Approach to identification of special educational needs and the support provided. Our graduated approach includes:
-
High quality first teaching
-
Individual learning passports
-
Support sessions around revision, organisation and study skills
-
Individual support, where applicable
We liaise with professionals outside school that are involved with our pupils, to ensure we are meeting each individual's needs.
Identification
Where individual needs are identified, extra support and intervention can be provided either in class or in small group sessions. Additional specialist support can be offered to pupils who have been identified as in need of further individualised sessions following recommendations given by external professional practitioners.
Should any child applying to the school already have an identified Special Educational Need or Disability, relevant reports should be submitted for consideration as part of the admissions process.
SEND Register
Pupils who have an identified special educational need will be included on the school SEND register, which is maintained by the SENDCo (Miss Sophie Milburn). This will be used by classroom teachers to meet the reasonable adjustments required for your child to develop skills and enhance their learning experiences at Mowden Hall.
