Pastoral Care
“Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all”
- Aristotle
Outstanding pastoral care is central to life at Mowden Hall. Each child knows that they are valued as an individual, and are part of the whole school community, both young and old. The relationship between staff and pupils, and between the pupils themselves is central, and is built around a framework of mutual respect.
Pupils are encouraged to be self-aware, confident and inquisitive, to listen and consider the views of others, and to make informed decisions. When things don’t go according to plan, they know that there is a safety net, someone who will listen and a shoulder to cry on if the need arises. Our pupils are taught from an early age that mistakes are inevitable, and are part of learning and growing up.
We firmly believe that a happy, secure and confident child will make excellent progress in all aspects of school life. Form tutors are at the heart of our pastoral system of care, working closely with the pupils in their care, and in partnership with parents, to ensure the best learning environment for all.
Our approach to pastoral care at Mowden Hall encompasses character education, which is the development of positive personal character strengths, including honesty, resilience, courage, perseverance and compassion. Achieving this will equip our pupils to lead flourishing lives once they leave us and spread their wings.
