Reception
By joining Mowden Hall School at Reception your child will receive all the support they need to ensure they fulfil their potential. As we work closely with parents and carers, we get to know each individual child, which allows us to create a happy and fun school experience. Through teaching a broad and balanced curriculum we can meet individual needs and interests. During this period of rapid development, we provide new challenges and opportunities to help children make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow.
Learning Through Play
At Mowden Hall School we want children to feel happy and excited about spending their time here with us, and for them to develop, engage and learn about the world around them. All this is achieved through our highly qualified staff, making the most of our stunning setting and excellent facilities. We also promote effective early learning through play and exploration, active learning and problem solving. By developing the children’s ability to make decisions and become independent learners, we offer encouragement at every stage of their learning journey. There continues to be a strong emphasis on learning through play but the balance shifts to a more structured approach as the year progresses. The children receive specialist teaching for P.E., Music, Swimming, French. They also enjoy a woodland classroom lesson each week.
Early Learning Goals
Throughout the Reception year, a Foundation Stage Profile will also be completed. Children are assessed continuously through observation and interactions with staff in the Early Years, across the seven areas of the curriculum. At the end of the Reception year a Foundation Stage Profile will be completed for each child. This assessment is based on staff knowledge of the child, linked to the observations they have carried out over the course of the year. There are no tests or tasks and the teachers build the profile over the year.
